Whether you’re looking for a good book or just curious what others are reading, you’ve come to the right place. Each Friday I pick a book and share the first line with you. This week I am sharing the first line from Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden.
Here’s the first line from the Prologue:
Lydia was embarrassed to wear a damp dress on the first day of school, but it rained last night while her clothes were strung across the boat’s rigging to dry.
This is the first book I have read by Elizabeth Camden and I must admit I now understand why so many rave about her writing. Look for my full review HERE.
Now it’s your turn! Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first (or your favorite) line!

I’m another Elizabeth Camden fan. She’s an excellent writer, and I love the way she finds unique twist on history for her stories.
My first line today is from the book I’m currently reading, Embracing Hope by Janell Butler Wojtowicz:
Drew McKinley twisted he gold wedding band around and around his finger then made a tight fist.
I’m looking forward to reading it.
This book is going on my TBR list!! Happy a Friday!
I keep meaning to read one of her novels and never seem to get around to it. I’ll have to change that!
I’ve got the first line from Ronie Kendig’s “Crown of Souls” – Tox! 😍 – on my blog today, but I’m going to share the first line from the book I just finished reading, Tamera Alexander’s “To Wager Her Heart”:
Alexandra Jamison had always wanted a sister.
This has been on my TBR pile for so long. Unfortunately, the pile is so long that I haven’t had the chance to get around to it yet! What an intriguing first line!
I’m sharing about “The Day the Angels Fell” by Shawn Smucker on my blog today, but I’m going to share the first line from the book I’m currently reading, “Under Fire” by Linda Shenton Matchell.
“Ruth Brown swiped the perspiration beads off her upper lip as her’s sister’s vacant coffin dropped into the ground with a dull thud.”
My first line on my blog is from Lori Benton’s newest release, ‘Many Sparrows’. So as not to spoil the surprise of that line, I’ll share a first line of a book my son is reading.
“Loony Coon did not even wait for his baby eyes to open to get into his first batch of trouble.”
Loony Coon by Sam Campbell
This book is in my tbr pile. Btw, you are missing my blog from your list. Just thought I’d let you know. =)
That’s another book on my list to read!
Happy Friday! My first line (sorry but actually two lines) is from Outlaw Angel by Miralee Ferrell:
“Angel Ramirez woke with a start, her heart pounding a rolling beat in her chest. Someone was in her room.”
Sounds like a great read! I’ll have to check it out! My first line from the closest book to me is from my novel, Hidden Treasures.(Set to release later this month! Yay!):
Something isn’t right.
Many Blessings Everyone!

Great minds think alike! My First Line Friday for this week is also a book by Elizabeth Camden! 🙂 Happy Friday!
Another Elizabeth Camden book featured today!! 🙂 I want to read this one. 🙂
My first line is coming from the next book I’m hoping to read (okay, honest truth, I’ve already started it but have set it aside a week or two).
“Joyanna Shein glanced at her parents. She knew there was something wrong…there had been something wrong for days.”
A Question of Honor, by Jesseca Wheaton
Ooooo! I love this cover! I need to read another Elizabeth Camden book soon, it’s been too long!
The grandest adventure of her life waited on the other side of these tracks. That or the most humiliating debacle she’d ever created Either way, there was no going back. From Head in the Clouds by Karen Witemeyer.
Elizabeth Camden spins a great tale!
Love Elizabeth Camden. This book is on my TBR pile. Have to get to it soon!
I am currently reading Many Sparrows by Lori Benton. What an AMAZING book. My first line comes from chapter two:
“Clare Margaret Inglesby, twenty-six years of age and eight months with child, wondered how she’d come to this: trapped in a jolting wagon advancing into perilous wilderness” (5).
