Welcome to First Line Friday! Each Friday I pick a book and share the first line with you. In return, I hope you’ll share with me a first line from whatever book you have at hand!
Today I’m sharing the first line from Kim Vogel Sawyer’s Grace and the Preacher, another book on my TBR, and the book I’ve chosen for March as part of the Author of the Month 2018 challenge hosted by the Christian Book Devourers group on Goodreads.
Here is the first line:
Cooperville, Missouri
March 1882Theophil Garrison
“Hey, Theo, didja hear the news?”
Mistaken identity leads to romance, laughter, and second chances in this inspirational historical romance.
At the age of twenty-three, postmistress Grace Cristler has all but given up hope of finding a husband among the narrowing group of eligible men in her town of Fairland, Kansas. But when her uncle decides to retire from the pulpit, Grace is responsible for corresponding with the new preacher set to take his place. She can’t deny the affection growing in her heart for Reverend Rufus Dille—a man she deeply admires but has only met through his letters.
Theophil Garrison is on the run from his past. Ten years ago his outlaw cousins convinced him to take part in a train robbery, but Theo fled the scene, leaving his cousins to face imprisonment. Now they’ve finished their sentences, but the plan for vengeance has just begun. Branded a coward and running for his life, Theo has a chance encounter that could provide him with the escape he needs.
But the young man’s desperate con might come at an enormous price for the tenderhearted Grace—and the entire town. Will Grace’s undeserved affection and God’s mercy make something beautiful from the ashes of Theo’s past?
Now it’s your turn to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first (or your favorite) line!
Then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating:
Happy Friday!
My FLF is from Safely Home by Randy Alcorn. “Three men watched intently as peculiar events occurred, one right after the other, on opposite sides of the globe.”
Hope you have a wonderful weekend and a Happy Easter! 🙂
And now I’m wondering how they are watching events on opposite sides of the globe at the same time… multiple screens?
Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Love the cover of this book! On my blog I am sharing from A Loyal Heart by Jody Hedlund, but here I will share from a new addition to my TBR pile, The Weaver’s Daughter by Sarah E. Ladd. “Alarm’s menacing sting pricked Kate Dearborn’s consciousness and hurried her steps.” Happy Friday!
Hmm “Alarm’s menacing sting” What an interesting descriptive. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve seen the cover of this book, but haven’t read what it was about, until today. My #TBR just grew again! 🙂 Thank you for sharing this book! I hope you have a nice weekend!
LOL Those TBR’s never seem to stop growing, do they? Hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend!
My frist paragraph is from: Life on the Porcelain Edge by C.E. Hilbert
Tessa Tarrington’s life was in the toilet.
Job? FIRED
Dad? HEART ATTACK
Current residence? CHILDHOOD BEDROOM
Love life? NON-EXISTENT.
Her life was swirling in the bowl, just waiting for the ultimate flush.
It’s humorous but deals with hard issues.
Happy Easter!
Thank you! 🙂
Intriguing. Happy Easter! I’m a day late because of Good Friday commitments yesterday. The book I’m sharing on my blog is The Social Tutor by Sally Britton. I enjoyed this novel. Here, I’m sharing the first line from another one of her books I just finished reading this week called Martha’s Patience. “If you do not stop this instant, I may have to faint.”
I hear you. Between my editing deadlines and Easter with the family, I’m just now finding the time to reply to everyone’s comments (although I did read them Friday). Your line cracks me up. I’m picturing this person preparing to intentionally faint (a.k.a. announcing that she is about to fake a faint). Thanks for sharing and I hope you found some time to relax this weekend!
Happy weekend! I read this one last year! It was an intriguing storyline for sure!
I know, I’m way behind on this selection, but … so many books, so little time! Thanks for stopping by!
