Whether you’re looking for a good book or just curious what others are reading, you’ve come to the right place. Each Friday I pick a book and share the first line with you. This week I am sharing the first line from Love Held Captive by Shelley Shepard Gray.
Here’s the first line:
Johnson’s Island, Ohio
Confederate States of America Officers’ POW Camp January 1865
There was almost nothing there.
I found this book via NetGalley and I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review which I will be posting shortly. In the meantime, let me just say, when I peeked at the book to snag the first line for this post, I got so caught up that I had to force myself to stop reading halfway through chapter three. And I really did not want to stop! I cannot wait to finish reading it!
Now it’s your turn! Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first (or your favorite) line!
Then head on over and share your first line with these friends:

A good first line almost forces you to keep reading, doesn’t it?
My pick this week has the same must-read quality – Ghost Heart by Lisa Harris and Lynne Gentry:
According to legend, their kind could never die.
I love that first line. It’s one of those ones that makes you ask questions!
I have the first line from Thomas Locke’s “Fault Lines” on my blog today, but I’m going to share the first line from Candace Calvert’s “Disaster Status” from her Mercy Hospital Collection. The Kindle collection with all three books in the series is on sale this month for just $2.99, so I couldn’t resist!
“Fire captain Scott McKenna bolted through the doors of Pacific Mercy ER, his boots thudding and heart pounding as the unconscious child began to stiffen and jerk in his arms.”
I’m looking forward to reading this one also! Soon, soon! Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
Happy Friday, Kathleen!
Here is my first line:
Rebekah
In the fourth grade we made little rockets out of old film canisters, baking soda, and vinegar.
The Isaac Project by Sarah Monzon
I have the first two books and eventually, I’ll work my way through this series. So many books on the TBR pile! Haha.
I’m sharing about Three Wishes by Lisa T. Bergren over on my blog today, but I’m currently reading the sequel, Four Winds, so I’ll share that here. 🙂
“Javier laughed and shook his head as we reached the top of the sand dune, Centinela loping in a wide circle around us. “I do not know if I can court a girl from the future and have a pet wolf,” he said in Spanish. “That is a lot to ask of one man.”
Happy Friday!
My first line is from The Spinster & the Cowboy by Lena Nelson Dooley:
“When the sharp rap on his closed office door roused him, Joshua Dillinger raised his gaze from the legal document he had been studying with intense concentration.”
Happy Friday!
Here’s mine from Misty Beller’s The Lady and the Mountain Man “Are you going to poison her the way you killed your last wife?”
I read book one in this series. 🙂
After reading about ten fiction books in the summer, I’m taking a fiction break and reading non-fiction. 🙂 I’m currently reading “Arms and Equipment in the Civil War,” which is a super fascinating read that goes in depth with all of the weapons used, tactics used, etc.
Happy Friday!
My first line:
“I inspected the knife in my hand.” ~ Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll
Happy Reading!
Dinh@Arlene’s Book Club
Love the cover! Happy Saturday!
Can’t wait to read this one!
That first line definitely grabs you. Can’t wait to read your review.
