Whether you’re looking for a good book or just curious what others are reading, you’ve come to the right place. Each Friday I pick a book and share the first line with you. This week I am sharing the first line from No Other Will Do by Karen Witemeyer.
Here’s the first line:
Winter 1882
Cooke County, Texas
Malachi Shaw made the arduous climb back into consciousness with great effort.
Although it is the first book in a series, No Other Will Do can be read as a stand alone and has been one of my favorite reads this year. With the unique premise of a town inhabited entirely by women with reasons to fear/resent men, this series is rich with possibilities.
Now it’s your turn! Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first (or your favorite) line!
Then head on over and share your first line with these friends:

Good morning. This first line is from the prologue of “The Shell Seekers,” by Rosamunde Pilcher.
“The taxi, an old Rover smelling of old cigarette smoke, trundled along the empty, country road at an unhurried pace.”
Happy Reading! 🙂
Hi! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
On my blog this week I’m excited to be teaming up with Carrie Turansky and sharing the first line & cover reveal for her new book “Across the Blue” scheduled to be released early 2018! I wanted to share another great line on the comments, so I’ve borrowed the book that my 9 year old son is currently reading.
“Charlie Scott leaned against the corner of the garage, every inch of him spelling boredom.” — Some Summer by: Jean Vandevenne
1987 Bob Jones University Press, Greenville, SC
Cover reveals are so much fun! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Jeremiah Ring had witnessed death as often as the next man on the Allegheny frontier, but in all his thirty years he had encountered no deaths more dismaying than those confronting him now. – Many Sparrows by Lori Benton
Oh my. I wonder what makes this one so significant. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
This book I need to read! 😉 On my blog I’m featuring book two… which I didn’t realize was a book two until I finished reading it. 😛 I enjoyed it though!
Ha ha. Yes, the books in this series can certainly stand on their own. However, I did enjoy the “insider” moments related to the characters featured in book one, but only minimally involved in book two. There is also an in-between novella! It’s called, “Worth the Wait” and although it could stand on its own, I recommend not reading it until you’ve read book one to get the full depth of the character arcs.
Good to know. Thanks!! 🙂
Happy Friday!
My first line is: “This fairy tale begins in 1968 during a garbage strike.” ~ The Changeling by Victor Lavalle.
Dinh@Arlene’s Book Club
LOL Well that is certainly an unusual start to a fairy tale! Thanks for sharing!
That is one of my all time favorites!!!
Dutch Whitney hit the bog hard, tumbling forward to smack facedown into the muck. – Grounded Hearts by Jeanne M. Dickson
It was a very fun read. 🙂
Uh oh. Hopefully his mouth was closed! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday!
“Ross Springer knew he was going into the drink the second Abby Cushman stepped up to the mark, fixed those intelligent blue eyes on the bull’s-eye, and let the beanbag zip.” Hook, Line, and Sinker by Susan May Warren
Sounds like someone signed up for that dunking. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
This book is on my to-read list. 🙂 Happy Monday!
