Hi Everyone! It’s First Line Friday, so grab a book near you and share your first line in the comments below!
Today I’m sharing the first line from a book I have added to my TBR, What Lies Within by Karen Ball.
Here is the first line:
Death was waiting.
Nothing’s going to stop Kyla…
until the ground crumbles beneath her feet.
Kyla Justice has arrived. Her company, Justice Construction, is one of the most critically acclaimed, commercially successful companies in the Pacific Northwest. And yet, something is missing. Not until she’s called on to build a center for inner-city kids does she realize what it is: her sense of purpose. Now nothing can stop her, not the low budget, not supply problems, not gang opposition, not her boyfriend’s suggestion that she sell her business and marry him–and most especially not that disagreeable Rafael Murphy.
Rafe Murphy understands battle. Wounded in action, this Force Recon Marine carries the scars–and the nightmares–to prove it. Though he can’t fight overseas any longer, he’s found his place as a warrior in the civilian world. So he soldiers on, trusting that one of these days, God will reveal to him why Rafe survived the ambush in Iraq. That day has arrived.
Kyla and Rafe both discover that determination alone won’t carry them through danger and challenges. When gang violence threatens their very foundations, there’s only one way to survive: rely on each other, be real–and surrender to God. In other words, risk everything…

Well that is ominous! Great cover too! Here’s the first line from the next book in my TBR pile — A Rebel Heart by Beth White. “Selah could hear the horses thundering closer, oncoming hell and destruction.” Happy Friday!
It is, right? Your line is, too. Thank you for sharing!
Suspenseful! Great book cover, too. The book I’m featuring on my blog is “The Country House Courtship” by Linore Rose Burkard. Since I’m still reading this novel, I will share the first line in Chapter Seventeen here. “Mrs. Royleforst finally made her public entrance among the guests after taking breakfast in her room and spending much of the day abed.” Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Sounds like a luxurious day. May I have one of those? 😉 Thanks for sharing!
Sounds like quite the intense, page-turning story!
Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Karen Witemeyer’s More Than Meets the Eye. There is also a giveaway running on the Author Interview post with Karen on my blog. Please stop by and enter to win an author autographed print copy!
Ooohh. That one is on my TBR for this month! I can’t wait to start it! 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday!😊
My FLF comes from Claiming Her Cowboy by Tina Radcliffe
If Lucy Maxwell had learned one thing, it was that when life appeared to be going smoothly, it was time to listen closely for the other boot to drop!
Have a great weekend and happy reading!📚😎
Between the first line and that cover, I’m hooked!
Here’s the first line of The Road to Magnolia Glen by Pam Hillman (I hope to finish this one this weekend):
The Lady Gallant in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean – January 1792
“Keep your brother away from my sister!”
Happy Friday!
Ha ha! That sounds like a fun opener. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
That cover is so cool looking and keeps with the suspense theme. I’m adding this to my TBR.
I’m sharing about “Just Let Go” by Courtney Walsh on my blog today, but I have “The Hawaiian Discovery” by Wanda Brunstetter and Jean Brunstetter waiting for me to read next.
Middlebury, Indiana
Ellen Lambright finished sweeping the kitchen floor and paused from her work to brew a cup of tea.
Have a great weekend!
Hmmm sounds like her chore list is long. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday!!!
Today on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from As The Tide Comes In by Cindy and Erin Woodsmall. Here I will share the first line from a short story I’m currently reading. It’s called “A Lady of Scandal” by Heather B. Moore. It’s very good.
“Hugh couldn’t help but think of his biggest question about Anthony and Lady Bridget. Why had Anthony offered to marry her?”
Hope you have an excellent weekend filled with good reading time!
Well, that makes me wonder if Hugh thinks there is something wrong with Lady Bridget (so why would anyone want to marry her) or something suspicious about Anthony’s motives.
Thanks for sharing!
OH!MY! I’m also adding this one to my TBR! Kathleen, thanks for sharing! 😉
It was going to be a fine day. Behold, Here’s Poison by Georgette Heyer
Ha! Well that title and first line seemed ill-matched, but I guess that’s interesting all in itself. A serial murderer might think it a very fine day if they have successfully added poison to someone’s food, I suppose. LOL Thanks for sharing! 🙂
I haven’t heard of this one. Thanks for sharing, Kathleen. It sounds intense! 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
WOW looks suspenseful! Love the cover art too!
The book I’m sharing this week is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte but I’ll share here the book I’m currently reading which is Blind Spot by Dani Pettrey: “Luke crouched behind an orange shipping container, dreading to think what it held. Have a great weekend and happy reading!
Oh. I recently read my first Pettrey book (Submerged) and loved it! You’ll have to tell me how you liked Blind Spot once you’ve finished it. 🙂
I JUST finished it… like within the last 10 minutes lol. I really enjoyed it! I’ll be posting a full review soon 🙂
Adding this one to my wishlist right now! I hope you can stop by:

Always happy to add to a fellow bibliophile’s list! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Happy Friday! My first line is from Light My Fire by Susan May Warren:
“His knee had turned into a melon, achy and soft, and Tucker Newman’s entire body throbbed, right down to the marrow.”
Ouch. Sounds like a tough day. Thanks for sharing!
I woke with a massive migraine today that just has not gone away, but I wanted to make sure to thank everyone for taking time to stop by, leave comments, and share their first lines! I promise I will read them all as soon as this crazy pain in my head goes away and the letters stop blurring together. I hope you all enjoy a wonderful weekend!
I just finished reading The Love Letter by Rachel Hauck today…
You see, love stories never worked for her. She never got the guy.
Happy reading!
Thanks for sharing! 🙂
