Hi Everyone! It’s First Line Friday, so grab a book near you and share your first line in the comments below!
Today I’m sharing the first line from The Love Letter by Rachel Hauck.
Here is the first line:
Hamilton
Hannah’s Cowpens
South Carolina Colony
January 17, 1781He must finish.
Romance has never been actress Chloe Daschle’s forte—in life or on screen. But everyone knows who to call for a convincing death scene . . . and it might be killing her career.
When Chloe is given a peek at the script for an epic love story, she decides to take her destiny into her own hands and request an audition for the lead female role, Esther Kingsley. The compelling tale, inspired by family lore and a one-page letter from the colonial ancestor of scriptwriter Jesse Gates, just might break her out of this career-crippling rut. Jesse would rather write about romance than live through it after his past relationship ended in disaster. But once on-set together, the chemistry between Jesse and his leading lady is hard to deny.
Centuries earlier, in the heart of the Revolutionary War, Hamilton Lightfoot and Esther Longfellow wrote their saga off the silver screen. Esther’s Loyalist father opposes any relationship with Hamilton, but Esther must face her beloved father’s disapproval and the dangers of war in order to convince Hamilton of their future together. Hamilton has loved Esther for years, and on the eve of battle pens the love letter she’s always wanted—something straight from the heart.
Set in stunning upcountry South Carolina, The Love Letter is a beautifully-crafted story of the courage it takes to face down fear and chase after love, even in the darkest of times. And just maybe, all these generations later, love can come home in a way not even Hollywood could imagine.

Hi Kathleen! This was an enjoyable story. I think I appreciated the historical setting most of all because I grew up not far from there. My first line this week is from Tricia Goyer’s A Daring Escape. I don’t have a bonus line to share, this week because I borrowed it from my local library and had to take it back yesterday. So, you’ll just have to stop by my blog to see the first line! <3
Will do. Thanks for stopping by!
Happy Friday!😎
My First Line Friday comes from a book I will be reading soon, The Life Lucy Knew by Karma Brown.
I have a complicated relationship with my memory. Most of us, me included, believe our memories are fairly accurate.
Have a great weekend and happy reading!😊📚🌼
Thanks for sharing!

Happy Friday!
Today’s first lines come from Finding Wicked by Kathryn L. James
“The day started out like any other, but then I received an email from Cordelia Irwin, the human resources director, and it was tagged urgent.”
Sounds ominous, doesn’t it!
I’m featuring lines from Nina Lane’s The Secret Thief on my blog today. I hope you can stop by!
Happy Friday! Great minds must think alike, because my first line is from The Love Letter by Rachel Hauck:
“He must finish. He must.”
Yes they do, and good books get around. 😉
I’m reading a novella today, The Treasured Book by Kathleen Fuller. Here are the first lines:
“Lucy Fisher had never been so drenched in her entire life. Still, she managed a smile as her bus drove away.”
Have a great weekend!
Today on my blog I’m sharing from Enchanting Nicholette by Dawn Crandall, part of the Timeless Love collection. I’ll share the first line from another story in the collection here, Teach Me to Love by Kari Trumbo:
“It wasn’t right to pray he would just die.”
Well, that is certainly attention grabbing. Thank you for sharing!
This looks like a lovely book! Is it part of a series? Rachel Hauk’s books are new to me–loved The Writing Desk. 🙂
My first line is from Candace Cameron’s new book, Kind is the New Classy: “Not a day goes by that I’m not thankful for the amazing job I have. I get to entertain people through comedy, romance, drama and heartfelt storytelling by acting my way through your television screens.” Happy reading!
The Love Letter is not part of a series. However, I highly recommend her Royal Wedding Series. Those are the books that first introduced me to Rachel’s writing.
That is a great opening line and I LOVE the title. Thanks for sharing!
I can’t wait to read this book!!!!
This week, I’m showcasing the first line from The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Here, I will share the first line from the book I just started reading, More Than Meets the Eye by Karen Witemeyer.
