Welcome to First Line Friday! Each Friday I pick a book and share the first line with you. In return, I hope you’ll share with me a first line from whatever book you have at hand!
Today I’m sharing the first line from Melissa Jagear’s latest release and the third book in her Teaville Moral Society series, A Chance at Forever.
Here are the first lines:
Southeast Kansas
Spring 1909“I wish you luck, George.”
“It’s Aaron now. Don’t forget.”
Intriguing, don’t you think? I’m currently reading the second book in this series, A Love So True . I can’t wait to get to this third book and find out what that intro is all about.
In early 1900s Kansas, Mercy McClain, determined to protect Teaville’s children from the bullying she experienced as a child, finds fulfillment working at the local orphanage and serving on the school board. When Aaron Firebrook, the classmate who bothered her more than any other, petitions the board for a teaching position, she’s dead set against him getting the job.
Aaron knows he deserves every bit of Mercy’s mistrust, but he’s returned to his hometown a changed man and is seeking to earn forgiveness of those he wronged. He doesn’t expect Mercy to like him, but surely he can prove he now has the best interests of the children at heart.
Will resentment and old wounds hold them back, or can Mercy and Aaron put the past behind them in time to face the unexpected threats to everything they’re working for?
Now it’s your turn to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first (or your favorite) line!
Then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating:
Happy Friday!
My FLF comes from a book im starting soon, Honeysuckle Dreams by Denise Hunter……
Playing house was just a little too easy for Hope Daniels. Her special chicken casserole waited in the oven, covered with foil; butter beans were simmering on the stovetop; and the yeasty smell of baked rolls hung in the air.
Have a great weekend!😀
You’re making me hungry! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Happy Friday, Kathleen. I’ll have to add this one to my TBR list now. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
My first line is from “Secret Past” by Sharee Stover…
“Uncle Nick is going to kill me.”
Uh oh. Hopefully that’s just an expression. 😉 Have a great weekend!
I love Melissa Jagears’s novels, especially the way she addresses contemporary issues in a historical context.
I’m sharing the first line from Winning Miss Winthrop by Carolyn Miller on my blog today—a wonderful Christian Regency romance.
But I’m going to share the first line from the book I’m currently reading – an advance copy of Falling for You by Becky Wade. It doesn’t release until 1 May, but I loved True to You and I have no self-control when it comes to Becky Wade, so here are the opening lines:
“I discovered a secret.”
Corbin Stewart looked sharply at twelve-year-old Charlotte Dixon. “What kind of a secret?”
Don’t you just love those authors who make you want to read when you should really be doing something else? Thanks for sharing!
Love the cover! This book is in my TBR pile of books. 🙂 Happy Friday!
Yes, I like the way she is resting her cheek on his shoulder. Her expression is so serene and happy.
Lovely cover! Happy Friday! My first lines:
“The Humpback Bridge had stood for almost a millennium, the sole link between the nations of Rhannon and Rhylla. It was an impressive sight; at the bridge’s peak it curved over one hundred feet above the River Archior, spanning a vast body of water that flowed aquamarine in summer and gravestone grey in Winter.”
It really sounds like a tale right?
It’s from State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury.
I’m nearly finished and if you love some fantasy in all shades of grey and …sorrow it’s the book you need.
Hmm. I do enjoy some fantasy novels now and then, but I’m not sure about the sorrow bit. I’m a happy ending kind of girl. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Happy Friday! My first line is from Joel C. Rosenberg’s book The Kremlin Conspiracy, which my husband grabbed and read before I could:
“Louisa Sherbatov had just turned six, but she would never turn seven.”
That line makes me want to cry. I can’t stand kids dying. 🙁 Thanks for sharing anyway. 🙂
I’m planning to read/re-read all three Teaville novels this month 😀
I’m sharing from The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim on my blog today, so here’s the first line from the prologue of a recent read, Julie Cantrell’s Perennials:
“Summer 1979
Oxford, Mississippi
“Four!” Bitsy cheers, twisting the lid to her firefly jar.”
Happy Friday!
I WISH I had time to reread my favorite books, but it seems I can barely keep up with the new ones! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday!
The book I’m sharing on my blog is A Sparrow in Terezin by Kristy Cambron but I’m sharing the book I’m currently (re)reading to get ready for the new Hallmark movie this weekend Once Upon A Prince by Rachel Hauck: “What did he say? The storm gusts moving over the Atlantic must have garbled his words.” Hope you have a blessed weekend!
I loved that book! You’ll have to tell me how the movie compares since I don’t get the Hallmark Channel. Thanks for sharing!
Great story!
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
