Welcome to First Line Fridays! The day we grab the book closest to us and share the first line. Join the fun and discover your next read!
Today I’m sharing the first line from An Unexpected Bride, by Ashtyn Newbold. It just happens to be on sale on Amazon (as of the time of this posting)! Is anyone else really enjoying all the sales on books lately? Definitely a bright spot with everything that’s going on.
Here is the first line:
Worthing, England 1818
Five tiny fingers curled around Eleanor’s wrist, and she looked down to see two round blue eyes, their dark lashes casting shadows over rosy cheeks.
When a missing lady returns to Brighton, all she wants is to protect her child. Can a marriage of convenience with an honorable gentleman save them both?
Eleanor Claridge had it all. A family that loved her, a secret romance with a handsome soldier, and a beautiful home in the seaside town of Brighton. Abducted and taken to Scotland under the ruse of a happy elopement, Eleanor was forced to marry the wicked man she had once loved.Β Widowed and alone, she flees on the first coach back to Brighton with her young son, vowing never to marry or trust another man again.
Henry Beaumont, by all opinions of society, was meant to be a vicar. After inheriting an estate, he finds his life of a gentleman boring, bleak, and without purpose. When he meets the missing Claridge girl on her journey back to Brighton, he is drawn to protecting Eleanor, her son, and their many secrets.
When Eleanor’s reputation and the safety of her child are questioned, she has no choice but to enter into a marriage of convenience with Henry, whose kindness and inviting blue eyes leave her questioning if love is such a dreadful notion after all. Can she learn to open her heart again? Or will the secrets of her past catch up with her before she has the chance?

Oh my, well now I’m curious to see how everything turns out! Happy Friday!!
Yes, I’m quite eager to get to this one. Thanks for stopping by! π
My first line is from chapter 6 of One Hundred Valleys by Bonnie Leon:
The Indians had kept moving, but Emmalin held on to the rifle.
Hmm. Someone is definitely nervous. Have a great weekend. π
βNo!β The scream pierced Eli, ripping her from sleep.
First line from Waltz in the Wilderness by Kathleen Denly, my current readπ.
Hmmm. That one sounds vaguely familiar. π I hope you’re enjoying your read! π
Happy Friday! My first line is from “Collateral Damage” by Lynette Eason:
“Sergeant First Class Asher James stared at Captain Phillip Newell, sure that he’d heard wrong.”
But what did he hear? LOL Guess I’ll have to check out the book to find out. π Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday!
On my blog I’m sharing from Being Known by Robin Jones Gunn. It’s such an EXCELLENT story. Currently, I’m reading Hadley Beckett’s Next Dish by Bethany Turner. I’m just getting into chapter 2 so I’ll share a line from there.
“Meemaw? Are you home?”
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading! π
This one definitely sounds fantastic! On my blog, I’m sharing Lady at Arms by Tamara Leigh. Here, I will share the first line from Chapter 21 of my current read, Kisses in Keystone by Kari Trumbo. “Hugh pulled his hat low to keep the sun off and shrugged on his black coat. The badge Bullock given him was buried in the bottom of his shaving kit. He hadn’t looked at it in a week.” I wish you a healthy and enjoyable weekend!
Ooh. I do like the reluctant sheriff angle. π Happy reading!
This book sounds awesome! I’m adding it to my list! In my blog I shared a line from The Captured Bride by Michelle Griep
“It ain’t right, You ain’t right”
Have an awesome weekend!

The Captured Bride was a fun read. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday! Today I’m sharing the first line from Smoke Screen by Terri Blackstock: “He left me for a size-two selfie star and didn’t want me to make a scene.”
https://moments-of-beauty.blogspot.com/2020/04/first-line-fridays-smoke-screen-by.html
Hmm I had to read that one a few times. I haven’t heard of a “selfie star” (I’m guessing that means being an Instagram star?) and it took me a minute to figure out that “size-two” was probably meant to say the female in question was skinny. The last part of the sentence has me hoping she does make a scene. π Thanks for sharing.
That looks like a good book! I’m currently reading Sweet As Honey by Jennifer Beckstrand and the first line is “Dan Kanagy stopped his open-air buggy in the middle of the deserted road and turned on his flashlight.” I hope you have a nice weekend!
Ha ha! When I saw “buggy” I started thinking historical but then you threw a flashlight in there. Now I’m guessing Amish fiction? or maybe Mennonite?
Beautiful cover!
