Welcome to First Line Fridays! The day we grab the book closest to us and share the first line. Join the fun and discover your next read!
With my debut novel, Waltz in the Wilderness, releasing for preorder in both ebook and print versions, it has been an exciting and busy couple of weeks around here. But I’m rarely too busy to squeeze in a few minutes of reading, and this week I’ve been enjoying Within My Heart, book 3 in Tamera Alexander’s Timber Ridge Reflections series. I’m listening to the Audible version to give my eyes a break at the end of a long day. Do you enjoy audiobooks?
Here is the first line from the Prologue:
Dusk, Hours Following the Battle of Nashville
December 17, 1864
Half hidden beneath the bare-limbed canopy of a dogwood tree, the gravedigger kept a reverent distance, patiently waiting for the last whispered prayers to be uttered and for the final mourner to take her leave.
Here is the first line from Chapter One:
Timber Ridge, Colorado, Rocky Mountains
April 12, 1877
Rachel Boyd stood motionless in the main aisle of the general store, knowing she shouldn’t eavesdrop.
Determined to fulfill her late husband’s dream, Rachel Boyd struggles to keep her ranch afloat with the help of her two young sons. But some days it feels as though her every effort is sabotaged. When faced with a loss she cannot afford, she’s forced to trust Rand Brookston, the one man in Timber Ridge she wishes to avoid. And with good reason. He’s a physician, just like her father, which tells her everything she needs to know about him. Or so she thinks . . .
Dr. Rand Brookston ventured west with the dream of bringing modern medicine to the wilds of the Colorado Rockies, but the townspeople have been slow to trust him. Just as slow in coming is Rand’s dream to build the town a proper clinic. When a patient’s life is threatened, Rand makes a choice–one that sends ripples through the town of Timber Ridge. And through Rachel Boyd’s stubborn heart.

Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from The Bright Unknown by Elizabeth Byler Younts. Oh my word is this book amazing!!! Currently, I am reading Once Upon a Christmas: Contemporary Retellings of Timeless Tales. It’s a really fun Christmas collection of novellas. I’ll share a line from that book here.
“Being escorted out of the firm by building security wasn’t on his to-do list, but he could write it in later … and cross it off.”
LOL! This book is filled with sweet and sassy stories. I am loving it so far.
Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading!
My first line is from Silent Night Suspect by Sharee Stover
Asia Stratton’s gaze remained transfixed on the lifeless eyes staring back at her.
Poignant line from the Prologue.
I usually only do audio books for non-fiction! I loved that whole series by Tamera Alexander! Today I’m sharing the first lines from The Words Between Us by Erin Bartels: “Mostly people only die once. But my father is not most people. He is a monster.”
