If you’re new to First Line Friday, welcome! Each Friday I pick a book and share the first line with you. In return, I hope you’ll share with me a first line from whatever book you have at hand!
Today I am sharing the first lines from a book I am listening to on Audible right now. It is Twelve Extraordinary Women by John MacArthur. I am currently only about 2 hours into the 7 hour book, but I have found it fascinating so far and wanted to share it with you even though it isn’t of my usual genre.
Here are the first lines:
Eve must have been a creature of unsurpassed beauty. She was the crown and pinnacle of God’s amazing creative work. The first female of Adam’s race was the last living thing to be called into existence – actually fashioned directly by the Creator’s own hand in a way that showed particular care and attentions to detail.
Celebrated for their courage, vision, hospitality, and spiritual giftedness, it’s no wonder women were so important to God’s plan revealed in the Old and New Testaments. It wasn’t their natural qualities that made these women extraordinary but the power of the one true God whom they worshipped and served.
In Twelve Extraordinary Women, you’ll learn more than fascinating information about these women, you’ll discover – perhaps for the first time – the unmistakable chronology of God’s redemptive work in history through their lives. These women were not ancillary to His plan, they were at the very heart of it.
Now it’s your turn to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first (or your favorite) line!
Then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating:
That book looks very interesting and one that I would love to dive into! I’m so glad you shared it today. Happy Friday!
I’m glad you stopped by! Twelve Extraordinary Women has made me look at the women featured with fresh eyes, which is something I hope for with books like this. I hope you get a chance to read it.
I’ll have to look into that book – it looks like it migh be a good one for my Bible study to use. Thanks for sharing it!
FYI: there is a workbook with comprehension type questions if you want to use it for a bible study group. https://www.christianbook.com/twelve-extraordinary-women-workbook/john-macarthur/9781418505578/pd/505579?product_redirect=1&Ntt=505579&item_code=WW&Ntk=keywords&event=ESRCP
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
Happy Friday! (What’s left!) My first lines (sorry, but I included the 2nd) is from These Healing Hills by Ann H. Gabhart:
“Francine Howard stepped off the bus into another world. She should have been prepared.”
Never apologize for adding a second line! Sometimes that’s where the real punch is. Clearly that is the case with this book. Thank you for sharing!
This would be a great read. I love John MacArthur’s teaching.
I have the first line from Tamara Leigh’s latest release, The Awakening, on my blog, but here I’m going to share the first line from my current read, ‘Weaver’s Needle’ by Robin Caroll:
“Unless you get one of those miracles they’re always talking about in church, I don’t see how you’ll be able to keep the business open into spring.”
Have a great weekend. 🙂
This is my first book by MacArthur and I am really enjoying it.
I don’t know who is talking in your quote, but I think I like them already.
Thanks for sharing!
I’ve wanted to read this book for a long time, and I didn’t realize it was on Audible. I will definitely have to check it out! Thanks for sharing! Happy Saturday!
It was a great find. I definitely recommend it. Thanks for stopping by!
that looks like an inspiring read!
My current first line is from Cathy Gohlke’s Until We Find Home: “Lightning crackled, splitting the night sky over Paris, illuminating letters painted on the bookstore window across the street: La Maison des Amis des Livres.”
It’s been a fascinating listen, for sure.
Having been to Paris, I can totally picture this in my mind. Great imagery! Thanks for sharing!
