Hey Everyone! It’s First Line Friday. So grab a book near you and share the first line in the comments below!
Today I’m sharing the first line from A Return of Devotion by Kristi Ann Hunter, the recently released second book in her Haven Manor series. Having thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, I am eagerly looking forward to crossing this one off my TBR list.
Here is the first line:
Marlborough, England
1816She should have been prepared.
Daphne Blakemoor was perfectly happy living in her own secluded world for twelve years. She had everything she needed–loved ones, a true home, and time to indulge her imagination. But when ownership of the estate where she works as a housekeeper passes on, and the new marquis has an undeniable connection to her past, everything she’s come to rely upon is threatened.
William, Marquis of Chemsford’s main goal in life is to be the exact opposite of his father. Starting a new life in the peace and quiet of the country sounds perfect until his housekeeper turns his life upside down.
They’ve spent their lives hiding from the past. Can they find the courage to face their deepest wounds and, perhaps, find a new path for the future together?

Happy Friday! My first line is from “Falling for Grace” by Janet W. Ferguson:
“It was finally over.”
Thanks for sharing! 🙂
I’m on the launch team for this book…review to come! 🙂 Happy reading Kathleen!
Happy weekend!
Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I shared the first line from American Omens by Travis Thrasher but it’s also my current read so I’ll share the first line from my current chapter (8) here: “‘I believe.’ Dowland said with all the conviction and soul he could muster.” Hope you have a wonderful weekend with plenty of quality reading time! 🙂
Hmm. I wonder what he believes. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday! I’m sharing the first line from Death in the Stocks by Georgette Heyer on my blog today. Here is the second line:
“No lamp shone in the window but a full moon sailed in a sky the colour of sapphires, and lit the village with a pale light, as cold as the sheen on steel.”
What a pretty sentence. Thanks for sharing!
Great first line!
I’m featuring “The Seamstress” by Allison Pittman on my blog, but I’ve just started reading “Atoning for Ashes” by Kaitlin Covel, so I’ll share that first line here:
Josie had always detested black.
Have a great weekend!
Sounds like some died and Josie is dressed in mourning clothes. I wonder if she has as strong an emotion about the person’s death as she does the color of her clothes?
Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Me, too! I’m halfway done.
My first lines are from A Return of Devotion by Kristi Hunter

She should have been prepared. After all, she’d had two months to imagine this moment. In truth she’d done little else besides imagine all the possible scenarios, each one worse than the last.
But she hadn’t imagined this.
