Welcome to First Line Fridays! The day we grab the book closest to us and share the first line. Join the fun and discover your next read!
Today I’m featuring, a novella I recently finished, Match Me If You Can by Krista Phillips. It was a very fun, funny, quick read which I do recommend.
Here’s the first line:
Ava St. James clutched her polka-dotted swimsuit top in her left hand and her cell phone on speaker in her right. “That’s not even funny Cam.”
There is no way this matchmaking thing is going to work…
Ava St. James is going to strangle her best friend. Conned into going on a trip to the Bahamas for “Matchmaking” Week, Ava determines to do everything she can to not be matched.
Former NFL football player Sean Jackson is only on this trip because he loves his mother–nothing more. Sure, he feels guilty that some woman is paired with him and will be disappointed that he isn’t interested–but that’s bound to happen to most of the couples anyway, right?
Will this unwilling match end up finding love after all, or will the past come back to haunt them both?

Love the cover! This looks like a fun light read.
I’ve got a combination first line and cover reveal over on my blog today, sharing the first line and the cover from A Girl’s Guide to the Outback by Jessica Kate. I’ve had the privilege of reading an early draft, and I’m looking forward to reading the final version!
In the meantime, I will console myself with reading Jessica Kate’s debut novel, Love and Other Mistakes, which releases next month. Here’s the first line:
“Natalie Groves eyed the bag of gingerbread M&M’s on the other side of the office meeting room and prayed for a divine intervention of Red Sea proportions.”
I love the title! And the synopsis tells me that it could be a fun read.
This is mine for this week – also a rom-com: https://collinesblog.com/2019/06/07/first-line-fridays-i-owe-you-one-by-sophie-kinsella/
My first line is from The Reluctant Bride by Jody Hedlund:
London, England. May, 1862
“Hang on a little longer, my lamb,” Mercy Wilkins shifted the listless infant in her arms without slowing her pace.
Your book looks quite funny!
I’m so very glad today is Friday!
Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from More Than Words Can Say by Karen Witemeyer. Here I’ll share the first line from Chapter 2 of the same book.
“Choosing a husband was much like choosing a good baguette.”
This looks like the perfect summer read! Hmm, I may have to add this to my TBR list!
I love novellas! Happy Friday Kathleen!
Happy Friday! I know I’m late but today was a busy day. It was the last day of school!!!!

Hope you have a great weekend. Happy reading!
Happy Friday! Today I’m sharing the first lines from Freedom’s Ring by Heidi Chiavaroli: “Death’s threshold overwhelmed me in a swell of instant silence and intense heat.”

“I didn’t have an ordinary childhood and I didn’t have ordinary dreams.”
Happy Friday! I’m sharing from an upcoming release today, Belinda Blake and the Snake in the Grass by Heather Day Gilbert. Here is the first line from Chapter 2:
“The first person I saw was Jacques, who was driving a lawnmower directly up an incline that made me hold my breath for his safety.”
Looks like a fun read 🙂
On my blog this week I featured The Brides of Big Valley by Wanda, Jean, and Richelle Brunstetter but I am currently reading Tate by Susan May Warren so I’ll share the first line from chapter 4 here: “With one article of clothing, Glo became a new woman.” Hope you have a great weekend with plenty of reading time! 🙂
