Welcome to First Line Friday! Each Friday I pick a book and share the first line with you. In return, I hope you’ll share with me a first line from whatever book you have at hand!
This week I am sharing the first line from one of the novellas in a collection I am currently enjoying, The Westward Christmas Brides Collection.
This first line is from The Reluctant Runaway, by Melanie Dobson:
Lavinia Starr twisted her embroidered kid gloves in her lap as she waited for the morning train to depart Union Station.
About the book:
Take the journey into the American west alongside nine women who are chasing their dreams—Cynthia, for security; Beryl, for a new family; Adeline, for freedom; Molly, for marriage; Beth, for a new start; Belinda, for a place to heal; Suzette, for adventure; Juliet, for peace; and Caroline, for a future for her children. Celebrate Christmas alongside these pioneers as love finds them in nine distinctly different romances penned by leading Christian fiction authors, including New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter.
I’m only in the middle of the fourth novella, but I am very much enjoying this collection so far, if you are looking for another Christmas themed historical romance this season.
Now it’s your turn to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first (or your favorite) line!
Then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating:
Happy Friday!
My first line is from the book I’m reading next, Like Moonlight at Low Tide by Nicole Quigley….
People never ask me the right question when they ask me what happened the beginning of my senior year. They always ask what his last words were.
Have a great weekend!!
Wow. That is a great first line! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
This does sound like a most delightful collection of stories! Thank you for sharing it today.

“The little hairs on the back of Allegra Spencer’s neck stood at attention. He was behind her.”
-Count Me In (An Emerald City Romance #1) by Mikal Dawn
Sounds like a good start to a suspenseful story. I will try to stop by your blog tomorrow. Out of town tonight and been running since early morning. All good things, but busy, busy, busy. 🙂
That sounds like a great start to a book.
I had the pleasure of reading Holding the Fort so I could review it. From the very first line I was captivated.
June 1885 Wichita, Kansas
The fumes of the gaslights at the foot of the stage protected Louisa Bell from the more noxious odors of her audience.
Sounds like a book I would enjoy. It also seems familiar. Either I have read it or I have it on my TBR. Thanks for sharing. Happy Friday!
That’s a great first line and such a pretty cover. Happy Friday!

“Come on, come on. I know you’re here somewhere,” Magdalena Henry murmured, squinting through the viewfinder of her camera at the ragged line of coffee pickers sorting their day’s yield.
-Ascension of Larks by Rachel Linden
I like it. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Friday!
My 1st line is from Shattered Memories by Debbie Lynne Costello:
“Why can’t you have him arrested and demand our money back?”
LOL Nice. Thanks for sharing.

My current first line is from Julie Lessman’s For Love of Liberty – “Abominable.” 🙂

I am sharing the first line from the YA Christian Dystopian novel All Things Now Living by Rondi Bauer Olson on my blog. Here I will post the first two lines from the novel I am starting next, Count Me In by Mikal Dawn:
“The little hairs on the back of Allegra Spencer’s neck stood at attention. He was behind her.”
My second favorite genre outside of romance is actually Dystopian and I have a difficult time finding clean, well-written books in that genre, so thank you for sharing! I’ll definitely check it out.
