Welcome to First Line Fridays! The day we grab the book closest to us and share the first line. Join the fun and discover your next read!
Today I’m sharing the first line from Because of You, a Christmas novella by Becky Wade!
Here is the first line:
Present Day
Merryweather, Washington
Maddie Winslow met the man of her dreams the same day that her friend Olivia introduced Maddie to her new boyfriend.
Chocolate shop manager Maddie Winslow’s secret crush on Leo Donnelly is as long-standing as it is unlikely to lead to romance.
History professor Leo is brainy, handsome, and kind. But for the past few years since his wife’s death, he’s been solely focused on his young son, their shared grief, and work.
Maddie knows Leo views her as nothing more than his late wife’s friend. However, when they’re asked to work together to provide Christmas gifts for a family in need, the two are thrown into close proximity. And Maddie’s discovery of a family heirloom brooch rumored to bring a happily-ever-after to its owner causes her to hope.
Might it finally be her turn for true love this Christmas season?

I’ve had my eye on reading this novella. Love the cover and that first line is so good! I posted about Susan Sleeman’s Night Vision, though I already finished reading it and am now rereading her First Responders series. 🙂
I finally got this book today, I’ve been waiting all month:
The Dress Shop on King Street by Ashley Clark,
From the prologue:
Charleston, South Carolina, 1860
The candlelight sent a shadow of Rose up against the wooden wall. From the shadow, Rose looked taller. Stronger. Funny thing about shadows. They made even the smallest things into monsters or fairies or whatever folks wanted.
Happy reading!
I love it when I get a much anticipated book in my hands! Merry Christmas!
Happy Friday!
On my blog today I’m sharing the first few lines from Jody Hedlund’s A Cowboy for Keeps: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2020/12/18/first-line-friday-166/. I’m currently on chapter 17 so I’ll share from there.
“Greta hadn’t been ready for their kiss to end and wanted to press into Wyatt, showing him he didn’t have to stop, that he could go on kissing her for as long as he wanted.”
Hope you have a wonderful weekend! 🙂❤📚
Well, that certainly an unusual way to *begin* a story! Merry Christmas!
Happy Friday!!
