Welcome to First Line Fridays! The day we grab the book closest to us and share the first line. Join the fun and discover your next read!
This week I am sharing the first line from the first novella in The Cowboys novella collection: Healing HeartsΒ by Cindy Ervin Huff. I’m in the middle of reading the third book in this collection and so far I’m loving it!
Hereβs the first line:
Kansas 1866
If I only do one good thing in my life, I’m getting my brother home.
Taming the westβone heart at a time.
Healing Heart
Lonnie Holtβs external scars remind him of his failures, his internal scars torment him.Β Genny CollinsΒ seeks safety at the ranch once owned by Lonnieβs uncle. When Lonnie and his brother arrive, sparks fly and distrust abounds. While Lonnie and Genny fight the love growing between them, his past haunts him, and her past pays them a visit.
Becoming Brave
WhenΒ Coy WhittakerΒ stumbles upon a grisly scene littered with bodies, he wants nothing more than to get his bossβs cattle out of Indian Territory. But when a bloodstainedΒ Aimee KaplanΒ draws down on him, his plansβand his heartβscreech to a halt.
Trailβs End
Wade ChadwickΒ has no money until his bossβs cattle sell, so he takes a kitchen job atΒ Abbyβs Home Cooking. The beautiful and prickly owner adds spice to his workday.Β Abby CoxΒ hires the down-and-out cowboy even though the wordΒ cowboyΒ leaves a bad taste in her mouth. Just as sheβs ready to trust Wade with her heart, money starts to disappear β¦ and so does her brother.
Loving a Harvey Girl
Eva KnowlesΒ can’t imagine why the local preacher doesn’t like Harvey Girlsβwomen who work serving tables instead of finding a husband and falling in love. But if Eva can get the handsome and wayward cowboyΒ Cal StephensΒ to join her in church, maybe the reverend will accept the girls. Or maybe she’ll forfeit her job for a husband, hearth, and home!

Happy Friday! My first line is from βFordβ by Susan May Warren:
βIf Ford didnβt get his head in the game, they were doomed. People were going to die. Probably him.β
Oh my. That doesn’t sound like a fun game. π Thanks for sharing!
Those stories do sound nice. On my blog this week, I am featuring The Sheriff’s Surrender by Susan Page Davis. Since it’s my current read, I’ll share the first line of Chapter 13 here: The women showed up for shooting practice on Monday, counting Gert and Libby. Gert could barely trust her eyes.
Have a wonderful weekend and happy reading.
Thanks for sharing!
That’s an opening line!! Happy Friday!
Thanks for stopping by!
My first line is from Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano:
N.Y. City November 1885
Any smidgen of hope that her entrance into N.Y. high society would be deemed a rousing success died the moment Miss Poppy Garrisonβs tiara became firmly attached to the sleeve of her dance partner.
LOL I love that opening line! This book is on my TBR. π
Happy Friday!
Today on my blog I am sharing the first line from Sweet Melody by Heidi McCahan: https://christianfictiongirl.blog/2019/09/05/first-line-friday-100/. I am just starting chapter seven, so I will share the first couple of lines from there.
“Rhett wiped down the espresso machine one last time then glanced at the large silver clock with chunky black numbers mounted on the white brick wall. His shift had ended a few minutes ago, and the cafe was empty.”
Happy reading! I hope you have an excellent weekend. πππ
Thanks for sharing!
The Book I shared on my blog today is The Whistle Walk by Stephenia H McGee but it’s also my current read so I’ll share the first line from chapter 9 here: “Charles’s cousin slapped him on the shoulder, sending his mug of ale sloshing over the rim and into his dinner.” Happy Reading! π
Thanks for sharing! π
Here’s the first line from the last book to arrive at my house, The Gryphon Heist by James R. Hannibal. “Talia Inger clutched her side, letting her shoulder fall against the alley wall.”
Hope you have a great weekend!
Uh oh. Injury or side cramp? Either way, doesn’t sound good that she is in an alley. Trouble seems to lurk in those things. π
Happy reading, have a good weekend!
