Fact #9

While out shopping for Christmas presents, I managed to squeeze in a brief research trip to a local museum. This is a mud wagon once used to run passengers and mail between the gold rush town of Julian, Ca and San Diego beginning in the early 1870s. Notice the canvas roof which prevented roof passengers and the canvas curtains which, when rolled up and fastened, left the passengers more exposed to the elements than the typically depicted Concord stages.
