Fact #14

Peering through the iron bars protecting the El Cuervo Adobe ruins, it is sad to see how little is left of this once large home built in 1857. The story of the Alvarado family who once lived here is one which connects with many other historically important families throughout the region. Among these connections is one which leads to another sadly neglected and deteriorating adobe ruin, the Pierre Bovet Adobe located in Carroll Canyon. According to William M. Bowen’s publication, “The Pierre Bovet Adobe”, Bovet’s daughter Juanita married Alonso Alvarado. When I read stories such as this, I wish these walls could talk. Did this adobe home witness the courtship of this young couple? What other stories might it tell us if it could talk?
