First Line Friday – 1.19.18

first-line-friday-3

If you’re new to First Line Friday, welcome! Each Friday I pick a book and share the first line with you. In return, I hope you’ll share with me a first line from whatever book you have at hand!

When I was young it seemed like I had an abridged version of every book I’d ever read stored in my head. Whenever I perused the bookshelves of my local bookstore I would usually know instantaneously if I had read the book in front of me or not. If the cover didn’t jog my memory, the blurb would. Then as I got older I would sometimes need to read the first line before it clicked. In the past year I have accidentally repurchased two different books which I had already purchased and read several years prior. In both cases, I didn’t realize my mistake until I was several pages into the first chapter. Today’s book, The Wildflower Bride by Mary Connealy (Book 3 in her Montana Marriages series), is one of those. Perhaps, like me, you’ve read it before, perhaps not. Either way this is a great book which deserves to be remembered, read, and shared with friends.

The Wildflower Bride

Montana Territory, 1877

Gunfire jerked Wade Sawyer awake.

In case you are wondering:  Yes, I reread it. 🙂

about-the-book-2

Welcome to the wilds of Montana, where humor, romance, and suspense ride the range. Glowing Sun, a white woman raised by the Flathead tribe, has vague memories of her former life, including a name—Abby Lind. When she’s forced to sever all links with her adopted Shoshone family, Abby wonders if she’ll ever find a home again. Tenderhearted Wade Sawyer, responsible for Abby’s survival during the village massacre, convinces the knife-wielding woman to return with him to the Sawyer Ranch, never realizing danger lurks behind every corner. Can they survive long enough to fall in love?

Now it’s your turn to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first (or your favorite) line!

Then head over to Hoarding Books to see who else is participating:

  1. Happy Friday!

Today, my First Line Friday comes from the next book on my TBR mountain, Coming Home to Island House by Erica James…..

There she is, the scarlet woman herself.’
    ‘She’s back then.’
‘Back to flaunt herself right under our noses. She’s no shame, that one.’
    ‘No shame at all.’

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Well, then. Wouldn’t want to know whomever is speaking at the start of that book! Goodness.

btw – I like that term, “TBR mountain.” It’s far more descriptive than the vague “list” I’ve been using. I may start referring to mine that way. 😉
