First Line Friday – 4.28.17

first-line-friday-3

It’s Friday, which means I’m sharing with you the first line from a book near me and I’m hoping you’ll share the first line of the book nearest you!

Today’s book has been sitting impatiently on my TBR (to-be-read) list for months and I’m expecting to get to it in the next few weeks! It’s Under A Blackberry Moon by Serena B. Miller, author of one of the few books I have read more than once, The Measure of Katie Calloway.

Under the Blackberry Moon

Don’t you just love that cover? Here’s the first line:

Bay City, Michigan
May 15, 1868

“Whose squaw are you, girl?”

I am so excited to be reading this soon!

Now it’s your turn! Grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line!

Then head on over and share your first line with these friends:

  1. I hope you get to it soon!

Since I have so many wonderful first lines to choose from at the moment, I’m going to share a different one here than on my blog. It’s the first line from Varina Denman’s ‘Looking Glass Lies’:

“I woke up in the middle of the night in our cavernous walk-in closet. Again.”

  2. This is a book I want to read…. I hope soon!

The line I’m going to share with you here is different than the one featured on my blog post. This book is one that my 9 year old son is currently reading for the second time.

“This is a true story. Well some of it. Most of it.”

  3. Today I’m sharing the first line from Cynthia Roemer’s debut book that came out today.

Nothing could have prepared her for this.
    Nothing.

  4. Happy Friday (is it really?)!! My first line is from a nonfiction book that is being released on May 2nd, Women Who Move Mountains by Sue Detweiler: ” ‘Get my baby out!’ I screamed with a raspy voice.”

And one of my favorite quotes: “Every day we have the opportunity to agree with God & allow His perspective to flood us with His hope. It’s like having a pressure washer in your mind.”

  5. “I am a lawyer, and I’m in prison. It’s a long story.” John Grisham, The Racketeer. I like your first line Friday. I actually went back to look at the sentence in my own book and think…yikes. I shoulda done better.
